Welcome to UNC from Dining Services
EXCITEMENT IS EVERYWHERE ACROSS CAMPUS
Summertime is nearing an end, but a great year is just starting here at UNC! For first year students, campus life is a new experience holding anticipation of the unknown... returning students are eager to get another year underway... and Faculty and Staff are excited to see a new group of students and have the opportunity to get to know them.
In Dining Services, we see a lot of new students at each meal, but we also see returning students... familiar faces that we haven't seen in months. Over a short period of time, we get to know their personal likes and dislikes. We see the student who likes their eggs cooked over-easy every morning, as well as the student who likes a little pesto and garlic in their pasta at lunch. We may not know the likes and dislikes of new students yet, but we are eager to!
MAKING YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE THE BEST POSSIBLE
Dining Services is dedicated to constantly improving services. For example, our menus are constantly changing. We have a creative and passionate staff who love to try new ways to cook and serve you better.
This semester we have added many new menu items and a couple new concepts that we hope all of our customers enjoy. Our biggest undertaking this semester is the addition of the new Munchy Mart at the University Center. Make sure to check out all the fresh made salads, sandwiches, entrees and healthy snacks that are made daily in house. There is also an amazing array of candies, drinks, and even locally made gelato! Stop by for a hot breakfast, mid-day snack, or grab something for dinner.
LIVING AWAY FROM HOME CAN BE AN ADJUSTMENT
Things may not be what students are used to, which is why we like to include ways for our customers to customize their meals. At the University Center Food Court and Tobey-Kendel Dining Room, we offer a "Create your own Panini station." You can create your own customized pasta bowl at our Bears Bistro window in the University Center for lunch, and build your own stir-fry bar at Tobey-Kendel... as well as many other customizable menu options.
Get creative by combining items from various stations. Take a slice of grilled beef from our DASH line and add it to your salad, then top it with fresh salsa from our Que Pasa line. For dessert, combine some ice cream with root beer to make your own float or use fresh fruit from our salad bar to finish things off. As you get to know the location of various items in the dining room, you can find ways to customize your meals to your liking.
Tobey-Kendel offers some of the most creative concepts on campus -- such as stations with spring rolls, sushi, and lettuce wraps... along with a customizable macaroni and cheese bar, build-a-wrap station... and many more fun options. Look for them on our daily menus! Make sure to check out our new "Hydration Station" at Tobey-Kendel. Fresh fruit and herb flavored waters are offered at every meal to give our guests a refreshing and flavorful option to sodas and juices.
COMFORT FOOD IN THE DINING ROOMS
If you are craving some good, old-fashioned comfort food, you can find that at our HomePlate stations at both Tobey-Kendel Dining Room and Holmes Dining Hall. Along with some of the more familiar “comfort foods,” we also offer a variety of ethnic foods which we hope you will try. Who knows, you may enjoy them so much you find a new favorite food.
At Holmes, you can try a taste of some Vietnamese specialties such as Bahn Mi sandwiches and Pho. We are always trying something new and hope you do to. Who knows, you may find a new favorite.
SMART CHOICES AT THE DASH
For those looking to start the school year off on the right foot by eating a healthy diet, (which is always recommended) we offer our DASH menu items. The DASH line is offered at both TK and Holmes, so whether you're on West campus or Central campus, you can take advantage of this healthy food line. The DASH offers foods that are low in saturated fat, low in sodium, and items that are wheat free, soy free, dairy free, and nut free... in case you have any allergen concerns. Don't be put off by the healthy promotion of this line though. The foods are fresh, flavorful and are sure to be some of your favorite items. The DASH menus are approved by the Smart Meal program (which was created by the Colorado Dietetic Association) and is taking off in many restaurants across Colorado. While you're making healthy choices, why don't you make your meal a Smart Meal™.
IT'S OUR MISSION
Dining Services' mission is to provide exceptional food and services to the UNC campus community and guests while promoting nutritional awareness and fostering culinary diversity. We offer many services to help accomplish this mission. In Holmes and Tobey-Kendel, our Gourmet To Go program offers "sack lunch" meals to go if you are in a hurry, while our Bear On The Run program allows you to grab a "hot to-go."
We also have multiple retail locations across campus to provide you food and beverages in the places you frequent... like our Coffee Corner locations in Michener Library, Turner Hall, and Kepner Hall. The University Center is home to Einstein Bros® Bagels, Starbucks®, Subway®, Taco Bell® Express, and our NEWEST location, the Munchy Mart convenience store. There are also select vending machines across campus that accept student Dining Dollars as well as the Faculty/Staff Payroll Deduction program.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US!
