Goals
and Mission
This Dietetic Internship program has been developed in accordance with the American Dietetic Association Standards of Education. The Standards of Education are used to delineate experiences and assignments that will provide the necessary practice experience to meet required competencies for entry-level practitioners.
Goals
The Goals of the program are:
- The program will prepare graduates to be competent entry-level dietitians
- The program will offer flexibility to meet the needs of potential interns
- The program will foster diversity in the dietetics profession
- Faculty and Preceptors will demonstrate professional leadership for students by participating in local, state, and national professional organizations
Student Learning Outcomes, as a result of completing the program include:
- Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with both written and verbal communication
- Students will demonstrate the ability to use effectively and efficiently the techniques and tools for managing foodservice systems
- Students will provide comprehensive nutrition care based on complete assessment, careful planning, and recognition of resource limitations
- Students will conduct community based health promotion/disease prevention programs
- Students will demonstrate the ability to use current technologies for information and communication activities
- Students will participate in professional and lifelong learning activities
- Students will demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate literature
- Students will demonstrate the ability to develop a research question and design a research protocol
Mission
The mission of the UNC Dietetic Internship is to provide a comprehensive program that enables graduates to be contributing members of a rapidly changing, technologically advanced, diverse society and allows them to compete successfully for career opportunities in dietetics.
