More than 140,000 individuals have passed through the classrooms and corridors of the UNC campus during our 125+ year history. Think about all of the stories those steps and students could tell. Communication Manager Amber Medina spends her days finding and developing these stories for use by alumni and development staff; highlighting the stories of inspiration, investment and impact – although she’s generally light on the use of gratuitous alliteration. Why? Because, for Amber, stories are compelling.
Amber joined UNC’s team in 2015, bringing with her more than a decade of higher education and public relations experience. She is responsible for managing the division’s communication strategy, messaging and brand compliance for alumni and development programs. Storytelling is one of the communication strategies she uses to help the team increase support for university priorities, student scholarships and campaign initiatives like the Campus Commons.
A highlight of my time at UNC would definitely be the groundbreaking of the new Campus Commons. We had a tough task and a lot to accomplish for the event, but we came together as a team, collaborated well with campus partners, and pulled off what was a very inspiring and spirited celebration of the future of UNC. I was very proud to be a part of it.
