Organizational support for UNC and our students is just as powerful as individual support. That’s why we have Nate Gismot, UNC’s Director of Development. Nate oversees UNC’s fundraising and engagement with businesses and foundations that seek to support UNC’s mission and priorities through gifts and grants. He also works closely with our performing and visual arts donors, helping individuals and organizations support UNC's world class arts.
Avid writer, reader and podcast listener, Nate’s life outlook and experiences are nearly as diverse as the university itself, with interest and background in education, human services, life sciences and the arts. In total, we’d be hard-pressed to find a better fit for someone who is responsible for managing the different perspectives and needs of UNC’s diverse partner organizations and industries. And thanks to the relationships that Nate develops with corporate and foundation partners, UNC increased support for the new Campus Commons, academic research and student scholarship.

There are lots of great places on campus, so it’s hard to pick a single favorite spot. Rules are rules, though, and I’m going to go with the quad in front of Carter Hall on 10th Avenue. It’s a picturesque expanse of trees, walkways, and wide lawns, and it offers a panoramic view of some of the iconic and historical buildings on our campus. Its close proximity to the surrounding neighborhood also serves as a visual reminder of our role in, and responsibility to, the community. It’s a great place to be.
