On being a Bear

The one thing that sets UNC apart is it's people - 'uncommonly UNC' some say.  What's uncommon is the sincerity that comes with connecting the people and programs of our institution with the passion and philanthropy of our donors.

It all comes down to people in service to our university's mission. No one better demonstrates a commitment to this principle than Ali.  Mission driven service is the cornerstone of her career - no matter the industry, executive or constituent, Ali approaches service with grace and intelligence. We cannot imagine having a better colleague by our side aiding the execution of our work and the work of our university.

Ali joined our team in 2017 and has a long history and family legacy with our university - one dating back decades.  Among her favorite UNC stories is that of her grandfather who daily hitchhiked from Denver to Greeley in order to attend classes in the 1940's. WWII interrupted his studies for a time but he returned to complete his degree in 1948.  Ali's mother, also a Bear, served as the Commander of Angel Flight at UNC from 1974-1975. She sought to raise awareness and renovate the campus to improve access among students from all backgrounds and abilities. Their commitment to service is a perfect example of the kind of 'uncommon' UNC is known for - and of course, they passed that commitment on to Ali.

"I had the opportunity to financially help a single mother who, despite her personal circumstances, had a dream of a college degree from UNC.  Although my contribution only paid for her books, the sense of pride and accomplishment that she had carrying those books to and from each class was something that no amount of money could buy.  Being able to feel UNC pride just from a student's face is a true testament to the mission and values of the University of Northern Colorado."
