Admission into Cumbres is competitive. Because admission to UNC's various education programs must first meet internal standards, primary consideration is given to those students whose high school or community college records reflect the level of academic achievement required for admission into UNC's teacher preparation program. Thus, high academic achievement will be necessary to compete successfully at the college level.
Once you are officially admitted to UNC, you may apply to the Cumbres program. Only incoming freshmen and transfer students who are beginning their first semester at UNC are eligible for admittance to the Cumbres program.
Cumbres Grants for $1,500 per year are offered to the most qualified applicants in the program. These grants are renewable annually for students maintaining satisfactory academic progress. The number of grants awarded in an academic year is contingent upon funding.
