Professor Groot is currently finishing her dissertation to obtain her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. Her dissertation work focuses on implementing effective correctional practices in a prison and re-entry setting. She obtained her M.S. from the University of Cincinnati and her B.S. from Loyola University Chicago.
Her research specialty areas focus on corrections. Her previous work includes risk assessment construction and validation, program evaluation of correctional programs, gender responsive programming, and implementing evidence based practices in all correctional settings. Professor Groot has additional research interests regarding gender and crime, criminal justice systems theory and practices, and correctional health management.
Professor Groot teaches a variety of courses at the Undergraduate and Graduate level. Currently, she is teaching classes focusing on statistics and research methods. Additionally, she enjoys teaching classes on corrections, rehabilitation, the criminal justice process, juvenile justice, and specialty offenders.
