Alma Mater

Ah! Well I remember, Friends of “Purple and Gold.”

Friends met in September, Pledging their Faith to hold.

Gone, Friends of September, Gone dear friends of old.

Time never shall sever, Friends of “Purple and Gold.”

Convocation, a Taste of UNC and Bear Fest are all part of Bear Welcome 2012.

Current and former University of Northern Colorado students, faculty and staff will be joined by friends, family and community members on Friday, Aug. 24 for the 2012 Fall Convocation, in Cranford Park. This is the annual ceremony marking the beginning of a new academic year.

Convocation recognizes the beginning of our students’ academic careers, much like commencement recognizes the completion. The ceremony allows students to learn early on more about UNC and some of the academic traditions of the university.

The UNC Provost, President Kay Norton and Mayor of Greeley will welcome new students, faculty and staff.

Attendees will hear from Stephen Mackessy the current winner of the M. Lucile Harrison Award who will provide the keynote address at this fall’s convocation. This award, which is the university’s top faculty honor, annually recognizes a faculty member with a distinguished career in teaching, professional activity and service.

Upon the conclusion of convocation, students, staff and faculty are invited for a little food and fun at Turner Green (located on west campus) for a Taste of UNC and Bear Fest, both events will run through 7 p.m.

Taste of UNC

At the Taste of UNC you can enjoy a wide variety of food. Students can use their meal plan, attendees can purchase a $5.00 ticket at the event or faculty and staff can use their personal dining cards for $5.85 (including tax). Once again, the taste will be a "green" event – food items will be handheld to minimize the need for paper plates and plastic ware. Tables and chairs will be available.

Bear Fest

Bear Fest is free and open to all, will include live music, inflatable games, performances by UNC cheerleaders, speakers and much more!

Inclement Weather Plans

If the weather looks threatening in the late afternoon of the event (e.g. wind speeds greater than 30 mph, lightning, heavy or driving rain) Convocation will be cancelled. The event will not be rescheduled. The Taste of UNC will be moved into Holmes Dining Hall.
