Service Opportunities
The UNC Community Connections Office subscribes to a national organization called Breakaway. Breakaway is a central agency that has a huge database of service opportunities across the United States. Through Breakaway, the service opportunities will be chosen. To learn more about Breakaway, view their web site at www.alternativebreaks.org.
The Community Connections Office is presently reviewing the hundreds of service opportunities and is narrowing down possible options for students to attend. Opportunities include: arts (music/dance/theater), children and youth, cultural issues, education, elders, environment, health/HIV, hunger/homelessness, Native Americans, social justice, women’s issues and many more.
It is also important to remember that this is a trip to serve others. Our service to others may range from reading a book to a child to working with a homeless person studying for their GED or babysitting for a child in a domestic violence shelter to preparing study guides for perpetrators of domestic violence. Whatever task you are asked to complete, please do so with service in your heart.
