Biography
Art Goodtimes attended schools in California, earning an A. A. degree from St. Joseph’s Seminary and a B.A. in English from San Francisco State University where he was a graduate and post-graduate student in Creative Writing.
He has been, among many other things, a camp counselor, machinist assistant, Vista volunteer, grocery store manager, teacher, newspaper reporter, columnist and editor, as well as twice Director of the Telluride Council for the Arts in Humanities. He has also served as editor, poetry editor, and contributor for a variety of political, environmental, and poetry newsletters and journals such as Twin Peaks poetry magazine (with Sharon Skolnick, San Francisco, 1979), Wild Earth a journal of conservation biology (Vermont, 1992-2000), SmallTalk (Sustainable Mountain Agricultural Alliance, Telluride), Earth First! Journal and The Wolverine (Telluride).
He is the founder and director of the Talking Gourds gathering (Talking Gourds, a literary bundle, Lone Cone Press, Norwood. CO). Art has worked with a variety of environmental and political organizations and been recognized for his civic activity, being named Commissioner of the Year for the Colorado Weed Management Association (2003) and receiving an Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award from the EPA (1998).
President of the Telluride Institute since 1997, he is currently a columnist for Connections (Whole Life Network, Montrose, Colorado), for Four Corners Free Press (Cortez, Colorado), the Rico Bugle (Rico, Colorado) and Inside Outside (Durango, Colorado).
