Special Education Faculty Awarded $1.3 Million in Grants
Faculty in the School of Special Education recently received separate grants from the U.S. Department of Education that total a combined $1.3 million over the course of the multi-year projects, which support development of graduate students and teachers in becoming highly qualified specialists. Associate Professor of Special Education Paula Conroy was awarded a personnel preparation grant of $200,000 by the department's Office of Special Education Programs. The four-year project, which qualifies for renewable federal funding, provides support for graduate students pursuing licensure as Visual Impairment Specialists. Harvey Rude, director of the School of Special Education, was awarded a separate personnel preparation grant by the Office of Special Education Programs. The $100,000 award also is renewable. The project will provide development of highly qualified special education teachers by preparing graduate students for careers as intervention specialists through clinical and field experiences and mentoring opportunities in local schools. Associate Professor Jeri Kraver from the School of English Language and Literature and Professor Bill Blubaugh from the School of Mathematical Sciences are co-directors of the project. - CEBS Video on the Internet
