Advantages of joining Tribeta

  1. Membership in a prestigious national biology organization with a nearly 100-year history of supporting biology education and research
  2. Eligibility for research grants and awards
  3. Regular members will receive a Tribeta Membership Certificate, a Membership card, an Honor cord for graduation, a Key chain, and Decals of the Tribeta crest

Types of membership

  1. Regular:  Undergraduate biological science majors who meet national requirements.
  2. Associate: Undergraduate students who have an interest in the life sciences, but do not yet qualify for Regular membership in the Honor Society; promotion to Regular membership can occur once eligibility is achieved.
  3. Graduate:  Graduate students in biology and faculty members.
  4. Honorary:  Honorary members may be elected by any chapter in recognition of significant accomplishment as biologists or outstanding service to the chapter.
  5. Alumna/Alumnus: Biology majors who have graduated from an institution at which a charter is later granted.  Biology graduates of UNC who graduated prior to 2004 may become Phi Omicron members in this category.
  6. Corporate: Corporations, institutions or other organizations which support undergraduate education in the biological sciences.

Membership eligibility requirements and privileges

Eligibility requirements

  1. You must have declared your undergraduate major in Biological Science;
  2. You must have completed at least one (1) term of the second year of a four year curriculum or its equivalent;
  3. You must have completed at least three (3) courses in Biological Science with an average grade of B or its equivalent;
  4. You must have a B average in all courses;
  5. You must be in good academic standing.

Privileges of Regular membership

  1. Regular Beta Beta Beta membership is for life.
  2. Regular members may wear the official Beta Beta Beta insignia.
  3. Only regular members may hold chapter offices, vote on chapter membership nominations and national questions, and represent the chapter or vote at national conventions.
  4. Regular members are eligible to apply for Beta Beta Beta research scholarships.
  5. As benefits of membership, a Regular member will receive a membership certificate, a membership card, two decals, a Beta Beta Beta keychain, and an honor cord that can be worn at graduation.

The process for membership

  1. Make an appointment with the Tribeta faculty adviser who will verify your eligibility and complete the membership form;
  2. Provide a one-time, lifetime membership fee of $50.00 to the Tribeta faculty adviser who will send it with the membership form to the national Tribeta office.

Eligibility requirements

Associate members shall be those undergraduate students whose interests include the life sciences in some significant way but who are ineligible for regular membership.

Privileges of Associate membership

  1. Associate Beta Beta Beta membership expires upon graduation or severance from UNC.
  2. Associate members are eligible to apply for Beta Beta Beta research scholarships.
  3. Associate members are eligible to participate in all local, district, and national activities except those specifically reserved to regular members.

The process for membership

  1. Make an appointment with the Tribeta faculty adviser who will verify your eligibility and complete the membership form;
  2. Provide a one-time, lifetime membership fee of $40.00 to the Tribeta faculty adviser who will send it with the membership form to the national Tribeta office.
  3. Promotion to Regular membership can take place for a $10.00 fee once Regular member eligibility requirements have been achieved.
