The Summit on Social Justice and Diversity is based at the University of Northern Colorado. It is an annual gathering of scholars, activists, students, faculty, and community members who share a belief in the need for a more just and egalitarian American society
Definition of Social Justice
The members of the Summit Organizing Committee (S.O.C) understand social justice to be based upon equality and uninhibited access to America's many opportunities. S.O.C members are not only seeking social justice, but will also work to ensure that no individual or group is disadvantaged because of their difference from the majority. We believe that only perpetual vigilance and struggle can attain and guarantee greater degrees of social justice.
Definition of Diversity
For us, diversity is not a hollow display of commercial images rooted in superficiality and ever more subtle stereotypes. Diversity can only mean acknowledging and respecting the differences among genders, races, ethnicities, sexual preferences, physical and mental abilities, and cultures within a considerably more equitable social order than currently exists.
Call to Action
We must have the courage to engage in the political, cultural, practical, and ethical battles necessary to secure social justice. We invite those who agree with the above statements to join us. Each generation finds its destiny and either fulfills or betrays it. Taking up this challenge, let us march on together. The struggle continues!
