Call for papers

The Summit Organizing Committee of the University of Northern Colorado is hosting the 6th Annual Summit on Social Justice and Diversity on Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 from 8:30am to 5pm in the University Center Panorama Room, Greeley, CO. We are soliciting papers and panel discussion proposals related to the following themes:

 

  • Social Justice struggles in the US, in Colorado or at the University of Northern Colorado;
  • Issues in immigration;
  • Somalis in Greeley – Crisis in Immigration
  • The legacy of the color line at the beginning of the 21st century;
  • Racial or gender inequality, disability, transgender, and ESL issues in education;
  • Community activism and organizing strategies, tactics, examples, or issues;
  • Inequities in the American criminal justice system;
  • Current issues related to alternative lifestyles;
  • Substandard treatment in health care;
  • Media representation of race, gender, disability, and sexuality;
  • Inequities in leadership roles; and
  • Violence as indicator of limited tolerance of difference.

 

Proposals should be in abstract form, 150 words in length, and include a cover page with the names of all presenters, the title of the paper, all contact information (phone, fax and e-mail), any restrictions regarding your presentation times (e.g., course times, etc.), and any technology requests. We will do our best to accommodate your wishes. Proposals are due no later than Monday, March 2nd, 2009 and should be sent to:

About the Summit: In addition to keynote speakers, papers, and a poster contest and art exhibit, we will release the results of our annual Report Card which grades the University of Northern Colorado on social justice issues.

Registration for Presenters and Panel Members ONLY:

Before April 1, 2009 cost is $25 or $12 (Students with limited income)

After April 1, 2009 cost is $35 or $17 (Students with limited income)
