THE CONSTITUTION OF

THE UNC ICE CLIMBERS CLUB

OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO

 

The mission of the UNC Ice Climbers Club is to provide an atmosphere for people to enjoy the outdoors through ice climbing; to gain experience in basic mountaineering, and introduce as many people as possible to ice climbing.

 

ARTICLE I. NAME

The name of this organization shall be the University of Northern Colorado Ice Climbers Club.

 

ARTICLE II. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

The membership of the UNC Ice Climbers Club shall include all students enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado for ten (10) or more hours of academic credit as defined by the University policy. All members must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. No prior experience or knowledge of ice climbing is necessary. However, it is required that all members have an appreciation of the outdoors and an interest in learning about ice climbing.

 

ARTICLE III. RIGHTS OF THE STUDENTS

All members of the UNC Ice Climbers Club shall be entitled to equal rights and privileges as set forth in this Constitution and its subsequent Bylaws. No students shall be discriminated on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, or age.

 

ARTICLE IV. REPRESENTATIVE AUTHORITY OF THE UNC ICE CLIMBERS CLUB

The official authority to represent the UNC Ice Climbers Club shall be vested in the Student Representative Council, hereafter referred to as SRC. Officers of the UNC Ice Climbers Club shall work closely with the SRC to ensure that all legal standpoints of the UNC Ice Climbers Club do not violate any National, State, or University laws.

 

ARTICLE V. AUTHORITY

The UNC Ice Climbers Club will be subject to policies enacted by the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees, Colorado Law and United States Law.

 

ARTICLE VI. MEMBERS OF THE UNC ICE CLIMBERS CLUB

The elected officers shall consist of a President and three Co-Vice-Presidents. All functions of the UNC Ice Climbers Club including web authoring, email contact, meetings, records keeping, etc. shall be controlled cooperatively by the President and Co-Vice-Presidents.

 

ARTICLE VII. GENERAL DUTIES AND SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS OF SRC MEMBERS

All Officers shall uphold the Constitution of the UNC Ice Climbers Club.

Section 1: President

The President shall act as the official representative of the UNC Ice Climbers Club. He/She will be required to have full understanding of climbing basics including ropes management, equipment management, protection set up, geological processes, and outdoor safety procedures. The President will also be required to have basic understanding of first aid procedures. It will be the obligation of the President to communicate with the other officers of the UNC Ice Climbers Club to ensure that all functions of the club are appropriate and safe for all members of the club. The President will also be responsible for notifying non-members of climbing expeditions, their departure time, and anticipated return time. The President will be required to delegate tasks of authority to the other officers of the club.

 

Section 2: Co-Vice-Presidents

The Co-Vice-Presidents shall work very closely with the club President to ensure that all functions of the UNC Ice Climbers Club are within the best interest of all members of the club. They shall have signing authority and they will be responsible for any tasks delegated to them by the President in regards to web authoring, financial responsibilities, and secretarial duties. As a team, the Co-Vice-Presidents and the President shall work together with the members of the UNC Student Representative Council, meaning that all four officers of the UNC Ice Climbers Club will be delegates to SRC.

 

ARTICLE VIII. TERMS OF OFFICE

The term of office for the President and Co-Vice-Presidents of the UNC Ice Climbers Club shall be one academic school year. Elections for officer positions will be in May of each school year. There is no limit to how many terms an officer can serve for the UNC Ice Climbers Club.

 

ARTICLE IX. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

The UNC Ice Climbers Club shall not exclude students from membership on the basis of ethnicity, race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, creed, disability, veteran status, or religion.

 

ARTICLE X. ADVISOR

Section 1: Selection Process

The President shall select the advisor for the UNC Ice Climbers Club in August of each school year.

Section 2: Duties

The advisor will not be required to attend club meetings, excursions, or any other functions put on by the UNC Ice Climbers Club. However, if he/she wishes to participate in any activities mentioned above, the advisor is more than welcome. The advisor will also extend program and financial advise to the officers/members of the UNC Ice Climbers Club.

 

ARTICLE XI. ORDER OF SUCCESSION

If the President is unable to fulfill his/her duties, the Co-Vice-Presidents will be required to satisfy the duties of the President's position.

 

ARTICLE XII. AMENDMENTS

Amendments to this Constitution may be passed by a two-thirds majority vote in a regular or special election.

 

ARTICLE XIII. REVIEW

This Constitution shall be reviewed every year before chartering by all interested club members. Recommendations of the interested club members will be made to a leadership and approved by a two-thirds majority vote.
