OVERVIEW OF EVENTS

We put on a variety of events for our members throughout the year. There are sign-ups for these events at our Hawai'i Club meetings that are held every other Thursday of the month. Costs may vary depending on fees, transportation, other expenses, & availability of funds. Events are planned by our Activities Coordinators, Marcus Nakama & KeiLyn Tanimoto.

 

UPCOMING EVENTS

17TH ANNUAL LUAU: RHYTHM OF THE OCEAN

  • Date: Saturday, April 12th.
  • Time: Doors open at 4:30PM, Dinner starts at 6:00PM, Hula show at 7:00PM
  • Where: University Center Ballrooms
  • Costs: $22 General Admission, $17 Students (with valid student ID) and UNC Faculty/Staff, $12 children 6 - 12, children 5 and under are FREE!
  • Description: Every year, Hawai'i Club puts on a show for the students and the community to help build cultural awareness and bring a taste of the Hawaiian Culture to Greeley. There will be food, entertainment, and a country store where you can purchase items and memorabilia from Hawaii. This is one of the biggest events on campus and boasts and upwards of 500+ attendants every year. Get your tickets now before its sold out at the UNC ticket office located at the University Center - Barnes & Noble.!

PAST EVENTS

APASS HIKING TRIP

  • When: September 29, 2007
  • Where: Estes Park (Rocky Mountain National Park)
  • Costs: $5 for Park Entrance Fees & extra money for shopping
  • Description: We will hike along the trails at Estes Park which is located in Rocky Mountain National Park and witness nature and wildlife. We will meet at 8:45AM at the Kohl House and will leave by 9:00AM. Bring warm clothes, it might be a little chilly up there! If time permits, we might go shopping in the Estes Park town. There's a salt water taffy shop, toy store, clothings stores, and a variety of food stores. We should be back by 4:00PM.

 

COLORADO MILLS & SKI PASS PURCHASES (SHOPPING TRIP)

  • When: October 6, 2007
  • Where: Colorado Mills & Larson's Ski & Sport
  • Costs: $119 for Copper Mountain Four Pass. Bring extra money for shopping and food.
  • Description: We will be going to Colorado Mills for a shopping trip. It's a really big mall that offers many shops (some are outlet shops) such as Zumies, PUMA, Banana Republic (Outlet), PacSun, Quiksilver Outlet, American Eagle, Gap Outlet, Anchor Blue, Hot Topic, and many more! There's also a wide range of food places like Panda Express, California Pizza Kitchen, and Hibachi San. We will also be purchasing Ski passes @ Larson's Ski & Sport for those that are going on the thanksgiving trip or those that want a ski pass.

 

RESPITE

  • When: October 6, 2007
  • Where: TBA
  • Costs: Free
  • Description: Respite is a program in which members from the club volunteer to play with children that have special needs. We entertain and play with these children for about 4-5 hours and dinner is generally provided for us. This gives a chance for their parents to have some time to relax. This program is a great way to volunteer and get involved with the community.

 

CANS TO CANDELARIA

  • When: October 11, the drive ends.
  • Where: Bring cans to Hawaii Club meetings.
  • Costs: Donate canned goods or give $1 (or more) to officers to buy canned goods for you!
  • Description: Help feed Weld County's hungry by donating canned goods or money to the Weld County Food Bank! If you don't have any canned goods, give $1 (or more would be awesome) to any officer and they will get canned goods for you!

TAILGAITING (HOMECOMING EVENT)

  • When: October 13, 2007 @ 9:00AM
  • Where: Nottingham Field Parking Area
  • Costs: Free
  • Description: We have a pot luck in the parking lot area every year and each house is responsible for bringing at least one dish. After eating, we head over to the field to watch the football game that starts at 12:00PM. The Bears will take on the Weber Stat Wildcats in a Big Sky Conference match-up at Nottingham Field. UPC Spirit Scarves will be awarded to random students and scholarships will also be given away during the 4th quarter of the game. Come join in on the homecoming festivities!

ELITCH GARDENS THEME PARK

  • When: October 20, 2007
  • Where: Denver
  • Costs: $18 (rough estimate)
  • Description: If you like roller coasters, games, funnel cakes, cotton candy, and haunted houses, this is the event for you! Elitch Gardens offers a wide range of rides for thrill seakers and even caters to the faint at heart. There are many game booths and even game rooms throughout the park. There are different food venues scattered throughout the park offering delicious turkey legs, bbq ribs, pizza, etc. The day is finished with a trip to the Haunted House (cost is not included with the ticket).

 

COPPER MOUNTAIN (THANKSGIVING TRIP)

  • When: November 20, 2007 - November 23, 2007
  • Where: Copper Mountain
  • Costs: $130 for rooms $30 for rentals (Rough Estimate)
  • Description: Every year the Hawaii Club takes a Thanksgiving trip to Copper Mountain, which is a nice resort up in the mountains. We will be staying there for 4 days and 3 nights. Most days are spent snowboarding or skiing. There's a wide range of runs for anyone of any skill level to enjoy! There are also shops, game rooms, and other venues for food and entertainment. On the night of Thanksgiving, everyone gets together for Thanksgiving Dinner. Each room is responsible for bringing at least one dish. *Note that anyone who wants to ski or snowboard that does not have their own gear will be fitted for their gear in mid-October. Therefore, it is recommended to sign-up early for this event!
  • Note: If you have any friends that are not part of the Hawaii Club, but would like to come on the Thanksgiving trip, please sign them up for the event and indicate that they are not a member. They must also pay a one time fee of $10 (in addition to the room charges).
