French Language and Culture in Provence

Earn 7 Credits: 6 credits from the Universite Paul Cezanne and 1 credit from CSU

 

Students will spend 4 weeks in Aix-en Provence, France taking courses at the Université of Paul Cezanne. Aix-en-Provence, located in the south of France, is renowned for its Medieval, Renaissance, and 17th and 18th century architecture. One of the most beautiful and varied regions of France, Provence’s topography is marvelously diverse with valleys, mountains, canyons, legendary beaches, and the salt marshes of La Camarague.

Students will attend language classes every morning and participate in a variety of afternoon cultural activities and seminars. In addition to weekday activities, students will have the opportunity to participate in weekend day trips to sites of interest in Southern, France.
UNC partners with CSU to offer the program to both CSU and UNC students. UNC faculty member, Lorie Sauble-Otto, will join students for the duration of trip to serve as a resource to students, coordinate on-site activities, and help facilitate students’ adjustment to life in France.

Eligibility and Availability


The program is open to students with the equivalent of 2 semesters of French language and a minimum GPA of 2.5. Acceptance will be made on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Designed for students at the intermediate or advanced level of French language study, this four-week summer program is offered at the Institut d'Etudes Francaises pour les Etudiants Estrangers, a branch of the Université Paul Cezanne located in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, France. Students will attend language classes every morning and participate in a variety of afternoon cultural activities and seminars. In addition to weekday activities, students will have the opportunity to participate in weekend day trips to sites of interest in the Provence region.

Colorado State University partners with the University of Northern Colorado to offer this program to CSU and UNC students. A faculty member from CSU will join students in Aix-en-Provence for the first two weeks of the program to serve as a resource to students, to coordinate on-site activities, and to help facilitate students' adjustment to life in France.

 

Cost


Estimated costs are $3,650.

This cost includes tuition, fees for 6 credits at UPC, accommodation in host families with two meals a day (Mon-Fri), one-day excursions to sites in Provence (TBD), scheduled cultural activities, orientation, faculty and on-site support, health insurance, and CSU administration fees.

Cost excludes international airfare, passport and visa fees, some meals, books, and personal spending money.

Housing and Meals


Students on the Summer 2013 French Language and Culture program will be housed with French host families. Living with a host family will provide students the opportunity to practice their French language skills daily and to experience aspects of French life and culture inaccessible to the average visitor. Students will receive breakfast and dinner daily (Monday - Friday) with their host families. Lunch daily and weekend meals are the responsibility of the student.

Applications


Students need to complete the registration form and turn in a $400 deposit. Registration forms and deposits should be brought to the Center for International Education on the 2nd floor of the University Center.
