Students will spend four weeks in Aix-en-Provence, France at the Institut d'Etudes Françaises Pour Etudiants Etrangers (IEFEE) offered through Aix Marseille University taking Intensive French Language courses. The IEFEE offers instruction in French at all levels, from beginner to advanced. In addition to the 5-credit French language course, students will be registered for a one-credit French Culture course offered through UNC's Office of Extended Studies and taught by UNC professor, Dr. Lorie Sauble-Otto, who will be on-site with students in France.

The program includes two day trips, several cultural activities, and a 3-day/2-night trip to Paris. Cultural activities include a theatre outing, wine tasting, cheese tasting, and Cezanne Art class activity. Possible day trip destinations include Arles, Le Luberon, Camargue, or Cassis, and program fees will include transportation, group meal, and local entrances.

Students will travel with Dr. Sauble-Otto by train to explore the wonders of Paris. The Paris excursion includes transportation, accommodation, a 2-day Paris Museum pass, and a Bateau Mouche boat tour.

Students will stay in homestays with local French families who will provide daily breakfasts and 5 dinners weekly. The families do not speak English, which will allow students a great opportunity to practice their French. Wi-Fi, bedding, and laundry services will be provided.

Additionally, students will be provided a welcome group meal, as well as a farewell group meal in Aix-en-Provence. Together, the program will provide students an intensive month-long French language and cultural immersion experience. Upon arrival, local transportation passes will be provided to get to university and back (no more than a 20-30 minute daily commute each way).

Students should arrive at Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) between 8am and 6pm on the official arrival date (May 20) for included pick-up from the airport. However, if students choose to not arrive during this time, they must find their own way to Aix-en-Provence to meet up with the group.
