Quebec photo Winner for "If I Had a Hammer" Category
Title: La Nuit Dans La Rue Saint-Jean
Photographer: Devin Grammon
Description:This photo was captured at night on top of the Saint John gate in downtown Quebec City.  The view is of Saint John Street and the whirl of nightlife which emerges there quickly after sundown.  Passing through the streets at night is an important pastime in Quebec City and this picture captures the true essence of a typical nuit Quebecois.  The mixture of bright colors, vivid lights, and continuous motion combine to pull any observer directly into the photo.  At its center, a sidewalk café is captured clearly while the street life passes by with a quick blur.  This, I believe, represents the island of French calm that Quebec represents in the sea of Anglo North America.
Taiwan photo Winner for "Up Close and Personal" Category
Title: Playing During Low Tide
Photographer: Matthew Fullen
Description: I took a picutre of these children playing on the beach during low tide in Da Jia, Tai Zhong Province. The wind turbines in the background are representative of much ofTaiwan's west coast.
Morocco photo

Winner for "The View From Here" Category
Title: Berber Boy on a Bike in the Sahara Desert
Photographer: Veronica Ibarra
Description:
I took this picture during my five day excursion to Morocco, Africa, where we camped in the Sahara Desert for two days.  This picture is very unique and I love it because there is a young boy in the background riding his bike, which seems very out of place!  This boy is referred to as a Berber, which are indigenous people who live in North Africa.  Berber people live in villages’ bordering the Sahara Desert and treat the huge Sahara as a giant backyard.  Berber people roam the desert collecting fossils to sell to foreigners, as well as, use it as a hangout place to meet with friends.  This picture not only shows us some of the Sahara Desert’s natural beauty, but it also shows us a glimpse of a foreign culture that is hard to imagine actually exists.
