Spring 2007 Globetrotter Photo Contest Winners! |
| Grand Prize Winner for Best Photo Overall Title: Vietnamese Woman Photographer: Christina Lutze Description: This portrait of an elderly Vietnamese woman is taken in front of her home constructed using some type of leaf. The town she lives in is accessible by boat, but there are no roads for vehicles to access it. I assume it is on rare occasion she encounters foreigners. She willingly agreed to let me take her picture but was too timid to look directly at the camera. I found her shyness and the way she squinches up her nose when she smiles endearing. |

Winner for "If I Had a Hammer" Category Title: Hong Kong Houseing Photographer: Christina Lutze Description: By American standards, Hong Kong living is extremely cramped due to limited space and the high cost of housing. While Hong Kong consists of over 250 islands, only 25% of the land is developed because of the hilly terrain. Housing is concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. Common additions to an American home such as a yard, porch, or garage, are very rarely seen in Hong Kong where the bulk of the population subsists in overcrowded high-rise apartment buildings. This photograph shows a typical Hong Kong living situation: a weathered high-rise where residents live in close proximity to one another. In Hong Kong’s warm climate, people hang laundry out their windows on wooden poles to dry. |

Winner for "Up Close and Personal" Category Title: Volando Photographer: Meredith Rose Scott Description: I took this photograph while attending the Independence Day festivals in Zapopan, a zone of Guadalajara, Mexico. There was a young Mexican girl feeding the pigeons outside of a church, when all of a sudden they took flight. It was an amazing sight! |
