Using Innovative Tools to Support Student Learning

Innovative Tools Workshop

As distance education becomes more relevant and available instructors are attempting to make their courses more interesting, accessible and interactive. During this session we will review a variety of free and low-cost programs and formats instructors can use to engage students more effectively in the learning process and provide timely feedback on assignments, in distance and face-to-face learning situations. A description of how students can reflect on teaching practices using video technology will also be reviewed. During this session, participants will:

  • Become familiar with a variety of free or low-cost programs to increase student interaction in classes (e.g., Jing, Wikispaces, Skype)
  • Be able to use interactive tools within Blackboard to increase participation in online and face-to-face classes
  • Understand how to use technology to supervise students at a distance (e.g. videos, bug-in-the-ear)
