Welcome Back by Looking Forward!
Welcome back and I hope you all have had a relaxing and replenishing summer. At CETL we were busy with our ongoing workshops and also a special intensive Statistics Research Seminar hosted by Dr. Susan Hutchinson. For more information and to view photos, click here.
Whether you are new to UNC, or a returning faculty, instructor, TA or academic leader, I’d like to welcome you back by reiterating our mission and goals at the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) to serve and collaborate with all of you across campus with quality and respect, and by way of looking forward to the fall semester.
With each new semester come new opportunities for learning and knowledge, not only for testing trusted teaching methods but also for trying out and adopting different pedagogical approaches or integrating new technologies into your courses, be they on campus or online, and or as part of your own professional development or scholarship. At CETL we are here to support your endeavors, answer your questions, and to provide the collaboration or resources you need to get the job done!
As part of our commitment to collaboration, creativity and innovation, I am pleased to announce that this semester sees the pilot of our new Faculty Fellows initiative and the Teaching and Learning Fellows. This is a unique and exciting opportunity, which is designed to increase both faculty representation and voice at CETL and also to better enable CETL to meet the needs and interests of diverse units across campus, while still promoting collegial collaboration and the faculty-teaching-faculty model. We hope you will welcome our four new fellows and be able to participate in the exciting activities that they will be hosting. For more information on the TLW and faculty fellows, please read on.
New this semester to CETL, Katherine Morrison, Ph.D. will be serving as Scholar in Residence and collaborating with our other scholar in residence, Gulden Karakok, Ph.D., in the area of mathematics and teacher professional development. We look forward to more innovating ideas and collaboration from our work with them both.
Finally, we are pleased to welcome our new full time Instructional Designer, Robin Weber who will provide ongoing support and training for Blackboard, Camtasia and other web-based applications and software. She is extremely knowledgeable in pedagogical and andragogical techniques and compliments our CETL staff and team efforts with our colleagues in Instructional Design and Development.
We hope to continue with some prior activities including SoTL and Engaged Scholarship series, and we are also looking forward to more new and exciting offerings. What about you or your program? Do you have a great idea but not sure where to go next? Call us. We can bring to fruition those teaching and learning projects or scholarly activities.
Whatever you have in mind or if you simply would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me or our staff. All the best for a wonderful semester!
