Study Abroad in Perth, Australia
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is located in Perth, Australia and is the second largest institution in Western Australia with approximately 21,000 students. With an international student population of nearly 4,000, Edith Cowan is a truly international university. Courses are offered on two different campuses within the city. Edith Cowan places a great emphasis on conducting research with industry partners. It is home to several internationally recognized programs, including the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts.
Perth, located 20 miles from the Indian Ocean, is the largest city in Western Australia. Perth is friendly, safe, and relaxed, yet offers all of the attractions of a large international city. The warm and sunny climate allows ample opportunity to relax at the beach or enjoy a wide variety of water sports such as surfing, sailing, scuba diving, or whale watching. The hinterlands, just north of Perth, allow for close encounters with critters unique to Australia including kangaroo and koala bears.
Activities & Excursions
Edith Cowan has several clubs and organizations, as well as a fully equipped sports and fitness center. There are academic, equity, social, and sports clubs available, so students can make friends with locals while taking part in activities ranging from badminton to quidditch to Buddhist clubs.
Students must first complete the UNC Study Abroad Application. Accepted students will be nominated online by UNC. Students will then receive an electronic application from ECU to complete in order to receive their documents needed to apply for their visa and to reserve housing.

Students of any major will find relevant course work at ECU. Courses can be applied to Liberal Arts core, university electives, or towards your major or minor. Students can take course units at any of ECU's campuses.
The Monfort College of Business has approved Edith Cowan courses for transfer credit. MCB students, please speak with your Study Abroad Advisor to get contact and course approval information.

Once accepted to Edith Cowan University, students will receive enrollment instructions along with the acceptance letter. Students will enroll in courses online.
Language of Instruction
At Edith Cowan University, 15 ECU credit points = 4 UNC credits. Students will enroll in 3-4 courses at ECU (45 - 60 ECU credit points).
All students will take part in Orientation week, typically the week before classes begin. Orientation will include information about ECU, fun events, and opportunities to meet other students.
The ECU school system runs from February to January, with 2 semesters.

To be eligible to apply, students must:
have at least a 2.5 GPA
have completed two semesters or 24 credits at UNC
This program is open to students of all majors.
There are a limited number of spaces available each year.
Students may only apply for one semester.
