UNC/District 6 PIPE line Program

PIPE stands for Partners In Pre-service Education. It is an agreement between a UNC student, District 6, and UNC School of Teacher Education. This new exciting opportunity is available to ISET students entering EDEL 350 in the Fall of 2009. If you want to stay in the Greeley area, and are serious about your professional teacher preparation, be a part of the first group, and help us shape this new partnership program.

Benefits for students

  • Additional training in direct instruction literacy and other programs used by District 6 and many other districts in Colorado and beyond.
  • The training provided by the District will count toward the Professional Education credits, if the student is hired. The credit would also count toward future salary increases.
  • District 6 guarantees placements for EDEL 350, EDEL 446 Literacy Practicum, and EDEL 454 Student Teaching. Program participants will be placed in designated schools (different for all three field experiences), with best teachers.
  • District 6 guarantees a job interview at the end of your student teaching.
  • $200 stipend paid after successful completion of EDEL 446 and upon assignment to student teaching in District 6.

Obligations

  • Attend several workshops during the school year. Learn about the programs, policies, and professional culture of District 6.
  • Attend a Summer 5-days literacy training session at the end of July 2010.
  • Enroll in a specific section of EDEL 445/446 in Spring of 2010 (to be determined). The class will cover the same curriculum as any other section, but some assignments may be designed to fit District 6 curriculum. A little extra work may be expected.
  • Take part in several assessments throughout the program (research support).

To apply to the program:

  • Apply to the District 6 online by September 1, 2009. The Application includes the Teacher Insight, an on-line screening tool. You should allow yourself 30-40 minutes to complete, but no preparation is necessary.
  • We will contact you within a few days, and if accepted, clear you for EDEL 350-006.
