Summer Enrichment Program

July 9-22, 2017

What is SEP?

  • SEP is a two-week residential program at the University of Northern Colorado consisting of high-interest, hands-on, brains-on courses for gifted, talented, and creative students entering grades 5 through 10.
  • Courses are developed by specialists in gifted education and/or in specialized content areas as part of the university's Center for the Education and Study of Gifted, Talented, Creative Learners.
  • Curriculum is developed and differentiated according to basic principles of gifted education, providing a unique opportunity for enrichment not ordinarily possible in regular classrooms.

How is SEP Structured?

  • Students select courses for their two-week session on the day they arrive.
  • Classes meet Monday-Friday during four 75-minute periods.
  • Students choose a variety of after-class options such as research at the library, active sports and recreation, craft activities, and visiting with new and old friends.
  • Saturdays are filled with challenging and fun learning sessions about new and unique topics.
  • On Sundays, students relax, do laundry, and enjoy some free time.
  • Trained counselors (college-age and older) supervise groups of approximately 15 students whenever students aren't in class, including overnight in residence halls.
  • Other activities include challenging academic trivia competitions, talent shows, a party/dance, and the SEP Showcase, where students share projects created during their classes
