SELF-EFFICACY AND ITS             DIMENTIONS

  • Definition- Self-efficacy is the personal judgments of one's ability to execute and attain goals. It measures focus on performance capabilities.
  • Level- difficulty of a task
  • Generality- beliefs transferring over different activities.
  • Strength- amount of one's certainty about performing a task.

SELF-EFFICACY AND ITS RELATED BELIEFS

  • Outcome expectations, self-concept, and perceived control are closely related.

ROLE OF SELF-EFFICACY IN ACEDEMIC MOTIVATION

  • A person's level of self-efficacy influences their choice of activities, level of effort, persistence, and emotional reactions.
  • If a person has a high level of self-efficacy they are more likely to undertake challenging tasks.

SELF-EFFICACY AND REGULATION OF LEARNING

  • Goal-setting, self-monitoring, self-evaluation, and strategy use are processes used by students who have high self-efficacy.
  • The higher the student's self-regulation of learning, the higher the academic achievement.

INSTRUCTIONAL AND SOCIAL INFLUENCES ON SELF-EFFICACY BELIEFS

  • Cognitive beliefs:
  • Enactive attainment- predicted on the outcomes of personal experiences.
  • Vicarious experience- comparing the student with a model outcome.
  • Verbal Persuasion- outcomes are described, not witnessed, depending on the credibility of the persuader.
  • Physiological states- fatigue, stress, and other emotions in which indicate physical inability.
