The authors explain how to use the types of interest in a classroom to motivate students.The authors then discuss how a student's motivation relates to Goals, Goal Orientation and Academic Motivation as well as Evaluation of Performance Goals and their intrinsic motivation. Finally, the authors explain that educators need to know the variables that play apart of the student's motivation to help the unmotivated.

This article gives a good overview on how goals help to motivate the student in the classroom. Motivating the Academically Unmotivated child, discuses the interests of the student and two ways on how to use these goals to help to motivate the child and succeed in the classroom environment. It discusses the use of mastery and performance goals. Not much seem known about mastery goals and how they perform in the classroom to help the student perform well in the classroom. Using mastery goals with performance goals are helping the student to perform better in the classroom. There is some differentiation of the two goals and how they are used in the classroom. The true motivation of the student they have found is to be finding the one thing that interests the student the most and building on that interest in the classroom. The relationship of goals in the classroom and the student performance is talked about in this article.
