Research Seminar
The purpose
of a research seminar is to collaboratively make sense of what you read. Most
of these articles are written for the research community and can be difficult
for novices to comprehend. By engaging in research seminars, you will make
sense of the content and learn to read scholarly articles.
In general,
a research seminar is simply a discussion about a reading. You may structure
this discussion by doing the following. First, choose a discussion leader if
you are in a group of 3 or more. Second, choose someone to take notes. Third,
as a group, summarize the reading. Fourth, discuss the following questions
below.
·
What
are the main ideas that this reading addresses?
·
What
terms are important to this reading? What is the meaning of these terms?
·
What
parts of the article were difficult to understand? How could we seek
clarification?
·
What
does this article teach us about motivation?
·
How
could we apply the main ideas to Calvin?
I will be
happy to join any of your research seminars or answer any questions.
