Motivation Project Timeline

Nov. 12-Dec. 7th we will meet in the PC Lab in the ICET lab (1st floor of McKee). Nov. 9th & 28th we have to meet in the Mac Lab.

LEARNING ACTIVITY DAY

Reading Assignment

  • Read chapters 5 & 6 of the textbook. These chapters give an excellent overview of the topics. Take the quiz before class.

Activities

  • Do the learning activities related to your perspective.
    • Take notes on what you learn.
    • Talk with me about what you've learned.
  • Choose a section related to your topic from one of the "Motivation in General" articles from the learning resources for everyone to read and discuss. I can help you choose one that has a good discussion of your particular topic.

RESEARCH DAY

Reading Assignment

  • Section related to your topic form one of the "Motivation in General" articles from the learning resources.

Activities

  • Divide up responsibilities.
    • Write it out so it is clear to everyone.
  • Start compiling information on your topic relevant to these 4 questions:
    • What are the main motivational patterns related to your topic and how would you define them?
    • How do these motivational patterns affect learning?
    • What is the cause of these motivational patterns?
    • How can productive motivational patterns be fostered?
  • One way to start doing this is by discussing the article you read and the sections of the textbook relevant to your topic.
    • Click here for information on research seminars. I am always willing to help out.
  • Choose an article on your topic from the learning resources for each person to read for next class period. Have no more than two people read the same article.

  • Each group member should take a turn explaining what he/she learned from the article.
    • Identify information relevant to the 4 questions (see above)
    • Clarify any confusion you might have about the article or the ideas. Feel free to ask me to help provide clarification.
  • Use Inspiration to start making a concept map of information about your topic.
    • Discuss this concept map with me.

  • Read each group's website.

Activities

  • 3 groups will do a 10-minute presentation of their topic and analysis of Calvin.
  • Get with new group to work on developing a comprehensive plan.
  • Assign responsibility for taking the lead on the 6 areas (curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, one-on-one interaction, and communication with parents).

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN DAY

Reading Assignment

  • Study each group's website for information relevant to your area of the comprehensive plan.

Activities

  • Do the comprehensive plan jigsaw activity.
  • Work in your groups on developing a comprehensive plan.
  • Make a plan for how you will (1) review each other's work, (2) put it all together, and (3) get it to me.
