Catch Factor – A factor that contributes to an individual or group's percetion of interest for the short term.
Extrinsic Motivation – An environmentally created reason to engage in an action or activity (O’Donnell, Reeve, & Smith, 2007).
Hold Factor – A factor that maintains an individual or group's perception of interest.
Individual Interest/Factor – An interest factor that is difficult or nearly impossible to change.
Interest – A topic-specific motivational state that arises out of attraction to a particular domain of activity.
Intrinsic Motivation – The inherent propensity to engage one’s interests and to exercise and develop one’s capacities (O’Donnell et al., 2007)
Pique - to excite or arouse.
Situational Interest/Factor – An interest factor that is under teacher control and able to be manipulated at least in short-term encounters.
