General Information on Virgin Gorda

Virgin Gorda is one of the British Virgin Islands; southeast of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. Virgin Gorda is home to beautiful white sand beaches, great snorkeling and diving, and exceptional sailing. However, it is best known for the collection of massive granite boulders on its southern peninsula at an area called The Baths. These boulders are the result of an ancient granitic intrusion that has since been uplifted (like Yosemite but on a much smaller scale) and range in size from a few feet to perhaps 60 feet tall. The boulders make for some fascinating snorkeling and an adventurous playground. For kids (and adults too for that matter), the boulders offer unlimited opportunities for fun. There are caves to hide in, mazes to go through, arches to see, ledges to jump off, and narrow passages to walk, wade, or swim through. For the climber, the rocks offer a bouldering paradise. *Note: if you are going for the bouldering, I recommend staying at one of the places close to the bouldering. Taxis and car rentals can be expensive. Plus, it doesn't get much better than waking up at first light and strolling down to the beach to climb some boulders.
