UNC Partnership Updates
CoPER – Governing Board Meetings
The first CoPER Governing Board meeting is scheduled for September 16, 2004 at 1380 Lawrence Street, Denver. Kay Norton, President of the University of Northern Colorado will join the group to explore issues related to P-20 education. The Governing Board will also meet November 18 th, January 20 th, 2005 and April 21, 2005.
CCODE Fall Retreat
The 2004 CCODE Fall Retreat will be held September 16 and 17, 2004 at the University of Northern Colorado.
New UNC/WCSD#6 Partnership Board
The College of Education and Behavioral Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, and Weld County School District Six is convening a new Partnership Board on September 29, 2004. The proposed purposes for the board are to provide the 12 members an opportunity to:
- To engage in “human conversations” that will enhance the global understanding of Partnership and Professional Development Schools. Diversity and Equity is the topic for the first year.
- To create an arena where connections between education theory and practice can be discussed and linked through inquiry.
- To create an arena where common problem solving can take place.
CCHE UNC/WCSD#6 No Child Left Behind Grant
An After-school Literacy/Math Intervention Program for 100 first-third graders is continuing in four WCSD#6 schools during the fall semester. The grant provides funds for teachers’ salaries, curriculum development and resources, snacks, and busing home after the extended school day. The schools involved include Billie Martinez, Cameron Elementary, Jackson Elementary, and Winograd Elementary.
Rocky Mountain Children’s Literature Conference
The College of Education and Behavioral Studies and the Reading program are sponsoring a children’s literature conference on October 8 and 9, 2004 at the University Center. Author presenters include Gordon Korman, Arthur Dorros, Will Hobbs, and G. Brian Karas. Authors will be visiting local schools.
