CoPER

The Colorado Partnership for Education Renewal (CoPER) is a consortium of school districts, four-year colleges, universities, and the Community Colleges of Colorado system. The organization was created in 1986, working under the auspices of the National Network for Educational Renewal, to promote equitable education for all students, stewardship of schools, excellent teaching practices, continued support of our democracy, and simultaneous renewal of schools and the education of educators. Since its beginning, CoPER has grown to include 16 school districts and 8 public and private universities in Colorado.

CoPER is governed by a board of member superintendents and deans of education and the arts and sciences who meet regularly to set direction and share insights. Eugene Sheehan, Dean of the UNC College of Education and Behavioral Studies, is the president elect of the Governing Board for the 2006-2008 term of office. CoPER's continuing work and current initiatives involve examining teacher recruitment and retention, providing a policy forums when necessary with policy makers and the broader community, offering alternative ways for examining school accountability, and developing ongoing conversations on points or “intersections” where schools and IHE could be working together to prepare and support education professionals.

CoPER is located at 1380 Lawrence Street, Suite 650 in Denver, CO. Carol Wilson is the Executive Director and can be contacted at (303) 556-6664 or http://online.jeffco.k12.co.us/coper.
