Teacher Leadership Certificate

The Teacher Leadership Certificate is a 16 credit hour program designed to support teachers’ efforts to improve teaching and learning in schools. Participants take four courses organized to broaden their perspectives of leadership and how it functions in school settings. Additionally, participants will develop leadership strategies and capacities to engage in collaborative leadership with peers, community, and administrators to enact positive change in diverse contexts that lead to greater student learning, achievement, and success.

The program consists of ELPS 601, Educational Leadership Through Inquiry; ELPS 603, Shaping Organizations; ELPS 604, Understanding People; and ELPS 654, Instructional Leadership and Supervision, as well as a one-credit field internship embedded in each course to assure authentic engagement and real-life applications in participants’ home school settings.

Participants in the certificate program are practicing teachers (P-12) who are interested in site-based leadership activities, including Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs).

The delivery model for this certificate program is an on-line, cohort-based structure that allows for peer exchange and collaborative planning among participants sharing interests and instructional goals.

The course work in this one year program can also be applied to the principal licensure program with no time restrictions.

Course work can also be applied to a degree program within a three year period of certificate completion.
