Educational leadership is a recognized need across all arenas of education. This 15 credit hour minor will allow doctoral students with substantive interests and skills in varied disciplines to build their skills in leadership in order to prepare for a leadership role in their areas of expertise. The intent of this minor is to encourage doctoral students throughout the University to expand their understanding and application of leadership theories, practices, strategies, and research that support best practices in leading change and improvement in instructional settings across a variety of organizational contexts.
Doctoral Minor students must be admitted to a doctoral program at UNC and consult with an ELPS advisor, in conjunction with their doctoral program advisor, to select the coursework that will best serve the interests and aspirations of the individual student. Completion of the minor will be noted in the students’ transcripts as “Minor in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.”
No application for admission to the minor is required: students will declare their intent to complete the minor on their doctoral program of studies form filed with the Graduate School.
