Advising guidelines
At the end of each semester you will probably want to see your advisor regarding which classes to take. You will use the appropriate plan of study form:
- ET Masters form
- School Library Education Masters form *
- School Library Endorsement (K-12) form*
- ET PHD form
*To request form please email Dr. Saenz (berlinda.saenz@unco.edu)
All of these documents contain the 4 year schedule for the Educational Technology and School Library Education classes.
Study these forms prior to your meeting with your advisor. Your advisor is a busy person. While it might appear that he or she teaches only a few hours each week, this person is in fact much busier than that. Faculty devotes approximately 60% of their time to teaching and advising duties, and 40% of their time to research and service activities. To get off to a good start with your adviser, go into your first meeting well-prepared. Have your questions clearly formed. Do you homework before going in. Be sure to look through and read this web site carefully. You may find you do not need to set up an appointment.
Each advisor has different policies for working with students, so be sure to ask your advisor how they prefer to work with you. Find out from your advisor if email or phone is the best way to contact them, if they plan to be around during the summer, and what times are best to meet with you. Then act accordingly.
