Prior to joining the faculty at UNC, Linda Lohr practiced instructional design in a variety of corporate, government, and K-12 settings. She has over 20 years of experience designing training programs that range from electronic performance support systems to an award winning money management program for low-income case-workers. She has worked in diverse environments as well, having practiced instructional design in Boston, Dallas, Kansas City, Memphis, and Colorado Springs. Linda consulted for companies such as MCI, Hewlet Packard, DEC, Boston Market, Millennium Learning, and Horizon Interactive Inc., among others.

Dr. Lohr's research emphasis is on visual design to support cognitive processes. She has recently published the Prentice-Hall textbook Creating Graphics for Learning and Performance, 2003. Dr Heng-Yu Ku and Linda have recently received a texbook contract from Prentice-Hall to write An Introduction To Instructional Design: Creating Self Directed Learning Environments, 2006.
