Applying

The application process involves completing the following steps. First, you will apply to the Graduate School. If you meet the minimum qualifications your application, it will be processed and sent to the Educational Technology program for review. If you are applying for a Ph.D. program, applications must be processed by mid-September and mid-February. These dates mark the two deadlines in an academic year that doctoral applications are processed.

  • Start by getting an application
    • Call the Graduate School at Carter Hall (970) 351 2831 or email the Graduate School at gradsch@unco.edu or
    • Fill out an application
  • Complete the application paperwork
    • Two official transcripts from every college or university attended since high school
    • Three letters of recommendation (this can be either a letter written to the Graduate School or a form that comes with the application packet) indicating a high potential for academic success
    • Brief letter that describes your career goals
    • GRE scores that are less than 5 years old (for Ph.D. students only)
    • TOEFL scores (for international applicants only)
  • Turn in your paperwork to the Graduate School
    • Mail to University of Northern Colorado, Graduate School, Carter Hall 2007, Campus Box 135, Greeley, Colorado 80639– or –
    • Submit the application online.
  • Wait as the Graduate School processes the paperwork
    • The Graduate School checks to see that your application is complete and that you have met minimum requirements
    • The Graduate School forwards your approved application to the program area
  • Wait until the Educational Technology program processes your paperwork
    • Master’s and Endorsement degrees take approximately one month to process
    • Doctoral degrees take approximately 4 months to complete
    • Paperwork must be processed by mid-September or mid-February
  • Receive your admissions status letter
    • If admitted to the program you will be assigned an advisor to plan your degree of studies
  • Your advisor is assigned to you and will be one of the full time, tenure-track or tenured faculty members. You may request a specific person to be your advisor, but this may or may not be honored depending on the workload at the time of your request

    Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to initiate meetings with your advisor. Your advisor will not be contacting you for meetings; instead, you will be contacting your advisor. Please note that advisors may not be available during the summer break as their contracts are for 9 months. Be sure to check with your advisor prior to summer break to find out what their plans are so that you can act accordingly
  • Estimate your graduation date
  • Review the four year plan for courses offered to help plan your course load and sequence
