Specializations

Program concentration areas are distinguished on three criteria: course emphasis, dissertation focus and practicum experience. For example, a student selecting the learning and cognition area, write a dissertation on a problem related to learning and cognition and do a practicum related to that specialty area. Student competencies in the core and specialty areas are examined by both oral and written comprehensive examinations. Written exams are administered twice a year during fall and spring semesters. Specific procedures for comprehensive examinations are available from the program secretary. In addition, students will submit a a written paper and give an oral presentation to the program faculty before the second letter of encouragement will be sent to the student as part of the review process.
