Welcome
Mission:
The Educational Foundations & Curriculum Studies program provides coordination and coursework for teacher preparation programs at the University of Northern Colorado. Our mission and mandate is to prepare professional educators at both the undergraduate and graduate level, who are critical thinkers, reflective decision-makers, creative problem-solvers, and agents of positive social change, prepared to respond to the continually evolving needs of a diverse population in a pluralistic, democratic society.
Vision:
“Education is the Acquisition of the Art of the Utilization of Knowledge”
Educational Foundations & Curriculum Studies refers to a broad field of study that derives its character and scope from a number of academic disciplines: history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, anthropology, religion, political science and educational policy studies. It represents the “scaffolding,” the framework upon which is linked and connected the content of pedagogy, not only the “what” of education,” but also the “why” and “how.” It is also the means by which learners test the correspondence and congruence of their thinking and behaving with the images of the possible they create.
EFCS includes the following academic and programmatic units:
- Educational Foundations
- Curriculum Studies
- Secondary Education (STEP)
- K -12 Education (K-12 PTEP)
