Barbara L. Whinery, Ph.D.
Barbara Whinery is an Associate Professor in Educational Foundations & Curriculum Studies. Her emphasis is middle grades education. She holds a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Middle School Education from the University of Wyoming. Currently she serves as coordinator for the Middle Grades Professional Teacher Education Program and the Middle School Master of Arts in Teaching degree program. In addition, she is the College of Education Coordinator for the Rural Education Access Program (R.E.A.P.) in northeastern Colorado.
Dr. Whinery's research interests include preparation of middle grades teachers, integrated curriculum and effective practices for middle grades teachers. She has actively worked in the arrea of curriculum and program development, and has given presentations on numerous topics related to middle school education at state, regional, and national middle school conferences.
At the graduate level, Dr. Whinery has taught a variety of courses in Elementary Education: Middle School Emphasis including: History and Philosophy of Middle School Curriculum, Design, and Assessment and Evaluation of Middle School Curriculum, Middle School Integrated Curriculum, and Middle Grades Instructional Practices. In addition, she supervises final projects for master degree students.
