Research Assistantships . The Programs in School Psychology are currently assigned two graduate research assistants. These students assist faculty approximately eight hours per week and receive a partial waiver of tuition (approximately one-half of resident or non-resident tuition), and a stipend. Additional research assistantships may be available through contract and grant projects, both in School Psychology and in other units of the University.

Teaching Assistantships . The Psychology program has teaching assistantships which are assigned to advanced doctoral students. These regularly budgeted positions are for nine months, carrying a teaching responsibility of three to six credits each semester. A limited number of summer assignments are available. Additional positions are occasionally available on a one-semester basis.

Limited teaching assistantships are also periodically available through the School Psychology External Degree Program in Colorado Springs. These assistantships involve assisting faculty in the teaching of assessment courses.

Fellowships. The Colorado Graduate Fellowship Program, a state-funded program, currently provides fellowships to several students in School Psychology. Other fellowships are also available through the Graduate School including Merit, Diversity, and Non-Resident fellowships.

Other Opportunities . Other opportunities are available for advanced students to provide consultative services to local school districts and community agencies and to work on contracted projects in the College of Education’s Research Center. Ed.S students can apply for Project InSPECT Integrated School Psychology Early Childhood Training, a 4-year degree program which builds upon an ongoing collaboration between the University of Denver and the University of Northern Colorado. The School Psychology Program also serves as a norming site for new and revised tests. Periodic employment is available when projects are in process, including opportunities to work with a school writing assessment project. Additionally, the Graduate School provides some financial support for dissertation research, and the Graduate Student Association offers travel awards for students making presentations at professional conferences.

To Apply : Students are encouraged to submit the general University application for financial aid available from the Office of Student Financial Aid. These applications require submission of the Family Financial Statement. The Office of Financial Aid provides both need-based and non-need-based assistance. After admission decisions are made, students who qualify are automatically sent Graduate School Fellowship applications. (Students should note that these awards are different than the financial assistance packages available from the Financial Aid Office, and should therefore also apply to that office.) For teaching assistantships students should request application forms from the Psychology program, College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, UNC.
