Things to Consider Before Applying

  • Can I be away for the weekend Friday - Sunday?

We can provide a letter to account for missing any Friday classes or work! This is a great professional development opportunity and we will help communicate with professors and supervisors so you can attend.

  • Where will I sleep and what will I eat?

Catalyst takes place at the YMCA in Estes park. The YMCA has hotel-style rooms so each person will have their own bed and share a room and bathroom with a roommate. Bedding and towels are provided but participants need to bring their own toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.). All meals are provided in the YMCA dining hall. The staff at the YMCA will accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies so please share that information with us in advance. We will also have snacks in our large group room to enjoy between meals.

  • What will we be doing all weekend?

Catalyst is intentionally structured to balance small group (6-10) and large group (50-60) connection points. We focus on engaged learning methods like group dialogue, experiential activities, and personal reflection.

  • What if I have a disability?

Diversity and Disability Statement: Our institution values diversity and inclusion; we are committed to a climate of mutual respect and full participation. Our goal is to create learning environments that are usable, equitable, inclusive and welcoming. If there are aspects of the instruction or design of this program that result in barriers to your inclusion or accurate assessment or achievement, such as inaccessible web content or the use of non-captioned videos— please notify the instructor as soon as possible. Disabled students are also welcome to contact the disability resource center to discuss a range of options to removing barriers in the course, including accommodations.

Please share any accommodations needed in advance so we can ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment at catalyst!

  • What if I have questions before or after applying?

Please reach out to us! We are happy to answer any questions! You can reach us at catalyst@unco.edu.

All meals, transportation, and lodging will be provided for you during the retreat.
