Post a Job or Internship | On Campus Interviewing | Policies & Hiring Guidelines


UNC supports paid, unpaid, for credit, and noncredit internships for its students, and has guidelines and procedures in place to help employers interested in establishing an internship.

If you plan to offer an unpaid internship, please review UNC’s Policy on Unpaid Internships

Posting a job or internship on Bears Career Connection (BCC) is simple and takes 5 steps:

  1. Review UNC's Policy and Hiring Guidelines
  2. Log in to BCC at the following link
    1. If you do not already have a profile please Click Here to Register
      (If you think you could already have a profile please call the Career Services main office to retrieve your username and password at 970-351-2127).
  3. Once you have successfully logged in, you will see a "My Jobs" tab at the top, hover over this and select "New Job"
  4. Complete as much information on the form as possible, (most importantly the position type, and the majors you are seeking) as this helps to take the guess work out for students when they are viewing your job or internship.
  5. Once you hit the Save button, it will be submitted to our office for approval. You will receive an email confirmation when the job has been approved by our office.

If you select the Jobs List at the top, you will be able to see all of the current positions you have posted for student and alumni viewing.

Policies & Hiring Guidelines

Unpaid Internships

If you plan to offer an unpaid internship, please review UNC’s Policy on Unpaid Internships.

Direct Hire (W-2) Positions Only

  • 1099 positions are eligible for posting on Bears Career Connection for experienced graduates (3+ years) and must include the following disclaimer in the posting: "This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed. Independent contractors are required to pay all self-employment taxes (Social Security & Medicare) as well as income tax. Independent contractors generally do not receive any type of employment benefits from the client. For more information please refer to or talk with a tax professional."
  • 1099 independent contractor recruiting is not permitted at Career Fairs nor eligible for On-Campus Interviews.
  • Comply with all applicable Federal and State Discrimination and other Employment Related Laws.

Domestic Positions

Career Services will no longer post domestic positions (e.g. nannies/babysitters, private tutors, housekeepers, drivers, gardeners, etc.). To staff domestic positions, please refer to services such as,, or

Commission only positions:

Career Services strives to connect students and alumni to valuable career experiences. We acknowledge that sometimes employers offer compensation in the form of commission. While we recognize the value of this, we also have seen the difficulties these types of positions can create for recent graduates. Therefore we are happy to post these positions to our experienced students or alumni only as long as they meet the following requirements:

  1. Employer must provide training and ongoing mentoring
  2. Employer must provide marketing and advertising of product and/or service
  3. No up-front, out-of-pocket, non-refundable fees required of students or graduates
  4. No part of compensation is dependent on recruiting others
  5. Comply with all applicable Federal and State Discrimination and other Employment Related Laws.

Third Party Recruiters

We follow general NACE guidelines in working with third-party agencies as published in the Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services and Employment Professionals.
We provide direct assistance to third party agencies that meet the following criteria:

  1. Charge no fees to the candidate
  2. Reveal the identity of the employer being represented. Career Services of the University of Northern Colorado will not attempt to solicit business away from third party recruiters by offering to deal directly with the employer
  3. Provide a position description for a valid opening
  4. In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), release candidate information provided by the college or university exclusively and only to the identified employer. Re-disclosure of candidate information is not permitted
  5. Comply with all Federal and State Equal Employment Opportunity laws (Titles VI and IX, and ADA.)

Right to Refuse

The Career Services office reserves the right to deny access and participation to an employer based on previous experiences of our students and/or our office.
