Outdoor Equipment Rental Policies & Procedures
Reservations
In some instances, we will reserve equipment for large, organized groups associated with UNC. We have an inventory of general camping equipment if you are interested in obtaining more information about reservations; please call The Campus Recreation Center at (970) 351-2062
Required Identification
You must present your UNC Student ID in order to rent equipment from the Campus Recreation Center. The ID must belong to the person renting the equipment and signing the Equipment Liability Statement.
Payments & Deposits
We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover for all payments and deposits. Deposits will be required for large groups reserving the equipment.
Rental Periods
We have a rental period of a one day flat rate and an additional fee for each additional day. Rental charges depend on items rented and number of days. For example: If you rent a 3 person tent for 3 days, it will be $7 for the first day and $4 ($2 per day) for the additional two days totaling $11.
Cleaning Charges
Cleaning fees will be assessed if you return equipment that is deemed excessively dirty by the rental attendants. You have the option to clean the equipment before returning it. Do NOT use harsh chemicals on any equipment. Please only use water!
Damage Charges
Charges will be assessed on all equipment that is returned damaged. Damages include, but are not limited to, lost tent stakes, burn holes, bent poles, and missing parts. When you rent, you have the opportunity and responsibility to inspect the equipment for damage or missing parts prior to departing the Campus Recreation Center. Avoid damage fees by taking care of the equipment and using it responsibly.
Late Charges
Late charges are assessed DAILY at the one day rental rate! To avoid late fees, return your equipment on time or call to extend your rental (for an additional charge). Late fees will be charged on equipment that is only partially returned on time. For example, if you return a tent on time, but the tent's rainfly is missing, you will be charged late fees on the tent until the rainfly is returned.
Lost or Destroyed Replacement Charges
If equipment is lost or damaged to the point it is deemed inoperable by the Campus Recreation Center, you will be charged to replace the item. You will be charged the replacement price value, and not its depreciated value. (Examples: Damaged zippers, rips and tears, scratches and dents)
