The Healthy Monday program is a national movement backed by leading public health schools that dedicates the first day of every week to health.  Every Monday, individuals and organizations join together to commit to healthy behaviors that improve nutrition, fitness, and overall health.

  • Why Monday?  It’s the January of the week—and the perfect time for a fresh start.  People are more likely to begin exercising, start a diet, or quit smoking on Monday as opposed to any other day.  Healthy Mondays are a call to action built in to each week!
  • What do I do? Each Monday we will post a small goal on our webpage.  Try to achieve this goal on Monday and throughout the week!
  • How do I play? Keep “Score” of your progress by using our Monthly Score Card.  Note the days you met your goal and any comments, thoughts, or feelings you had. 
  • What do I win? PRIZES!  On our webpage, we will announce the opportunity for Random Prize Drawings!  Look for the “Healthy Monday Raffle” on our main page and follow the instructions to be entered to win Massages, Spa Services, Personal Training Sessions, Group Fitness Passes, Outdoor Pursuits Trips, and more!
    • You must REGISTER to be eligible to win prizes! Register HERE!
  • We will offer FREE Mini-Events throughout the semester to help you on your way!  Look for these events on Mondays!  All events will be posted on our webpage and on the UNC Calendar at least one week in advance. 
    • Meatless Monday - Every Monday, choose a meatless menu option from Dining Services or wherever you decide to eat.  We will find and post the meatless option each Monday and post some meatless recipes on our webpage.  Bon Appétit!
    • Meditation Monday - Meditation helps you balance yourself, reconnect and renew.  Clear your mind this Monday outside in our beautiful Courtyard for a 45 minute meditation session.  Meditation will take place in the Lower Fitness Room when the weather is not permitting.
    • Mile Monday – Get some fresh air or get a change of scenery by walking, jogging, biking, etc. for at least one mile.  Join the Recreation Center staff in a group walk on Monday from 12:15 pm – 12:30 pm on designated Mile Mondays! The walks will take place at the University Center Bear (outside) or inside during inclement weather.
    • Milestone Monday—Check your progress and record your accomplishments on each Milestone Monday!  Use this to build incentive and reward yourself for a job well done!
    • Monday Massage - Feeling stressed this Monday?  Stop by the UC to receive a free Chair Massage from 11:30 – 1:30 pm.  OR Stop by the Recreation Center from 3:30- 5:30 pm.
    • Move It Monday – Get a move on it and join us as the Rec for a free Group Fitness class on Monday.
