Group Fitness Instructor
Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness classes for the University of Northern Colorado community. Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for providing fitness classes, supervising group fitness participants, creating a supportive exercise environment, and assisting other staff in developing their fitness instruction skills and knowledge. This position reports to the Coordinator of Fitness.
Qualifications: Current Adult CPR, Adult AED, and First Aid are required. All instructors must either hold a current national group fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, or others deemed appropriate by the Coordinator of Fitness) or complete a 8 week Group Fitness Instructor Training Course and participate in an audition.
Personal Trainers are responsible for designing and implementing fitness programs that are goal-driven, safe, effective, and enjoyable for the University of Northern Colorado community. All fitness programs will be based on American College of Sports Medicine guidelines. Personal Trainers also provide in-depth information on proper form and technique, fitness guidelines/recommendations, physiology and anatomy, exercise modifications, client motivation, and monitoring and communicating client progress. This position reports to the Coordinator of Fitness. Prep Courses are offered each Fall!
Qualifications: Current Adult CPR, Adult AED, and First Aid are required. All trainers must hold a current national personal trainer certification (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, or others deemed appropriate by the Coordinator of Fitness) is recommended, but not required to complete an in-house Practical Personal Training Course and/or in a health/fitness-related field.
Intern: Fitness or Wellness
The student Fitness & Wellness Intern will assist with a variety of Fitness and Wellness programming at the UNC Campus Recreation Center. The intern will gain knowledge in the areas of fitness center management and operation, fitness and wellness program planning and development, exercise orientation and prescription, marketing and promotion of programs, data management and customer service. Approximately 10-20 hours per week.
Qualifications: Pursuing a degree in the area of exercise science, health promotion, health education, recreation or other health related fields. Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.). Current Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid certified. Preferred previous experience working as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and/or general fitness center staff. Preferred certification as a Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor.
