Open Swim Rules

General:lifeguard

  • If only one lifeguard is present, the diving boards are closed
  • During Recreation Swim hours all patrons must enter through the Recreation Center door, and not through the Butler Hancock doors
  • Swim only when a lifeguard is on duty
  • Shower before entering the pool
  • Swimsuits are required (no cut-offs, etc.)
  • Babies must wear appropriate swim wear (plastic pants or swim diapers only)
  • Children must be supervised by an adult
  • The adult must be in the water and within arm's length of child at all times
  • Flotation devices are allowed for children only under the strict supervision of an adult
  • No diving in the lap pool
  • No running, shoving or pushing on deck or locker rooms
  • No hanging on the lane lines
  • Do not sit, stand or jump on kick boards
  • Fitness equipment may be used when approved by the lifeguard on duty
  • No smoking
  • No food or glass bottles in the pool or locker room areas
  • No releasing of body fluids or waste into the pool. This includes spitting and nose blowing. (The gutter or trashcan may be used for spitting.)
  • No swimming with open wounds
  • No pets are allowed in the pool area

diving_boardDiving

  • Diving is permitted only on the 1 meter board
  • A patron should be able to swim the length of the diving well without assistance before being allowed in the diving area
  • Jump straight off of the diving board
  • No excessive bouncing on diving boards
  • Exit pool ladders or beyond. Do not swim under or towards diving boards
  • Only one person is allowed on the diving board at one time

Kayaks

  • Kayaks may be used only on the days designated by the program
  • All kayakers must follow the pool rules
  • Make sure to inform lifeguard on duty of emergency signals
  • Kayaks must be clean before they enter the pool
  • Please put kayaks in water then stand on PVC gutter or bulkhead to enter kayak
  • No swimming is aloowed in the designated kayaking area while kayaks are present
