  • Spring 2018 Group Fitness Prep Course

    February 19th - April 20th
    Learn the skills necessary to become a certified group fitness instructor!
    This course is designed to prepare attendees to take the ACE nationally
    recognized group fitness certification exam.

  • Olympic Lifting Classes

    Learn to clean, jerk, snatch and improve your Olympic lifts in this 6-week class lead by a certified personal trainer. Every week these movements will progress and participants will learn techniques to help master the Olympic lifts.

  • Iron Bear Challenge

    Join us for our virtual triathlon challenge where participants will work to complete an Ironman triathlon before the end of the semester. Accumulate 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and 26.2 miles of running to win prizes.

  •  Women on Weights  

    Women on Weights is designed to introduce women to strength training. This 3-week program is taught by certified personal trainers. The program will teach the benefits of strength training, proper weightlifting technique, and build confidence in the gym.

  • Triathlon Training Group

    This 10-week program is designed for participants of all fitness levels who are interested in training for a sprint triathlon. Each session will include a combination of swimming, biking, and running and will be taught by a certified group fitness instructor and tri-athlete.

    $15 students

  • Does the course fee include the cost of taking the ACE exam?

    The course fee does not include the cost of the national certification examination, but does provide individuals with the ACE PowerPoint slides, quizzes, and much more in preparation for the exam.  Also, as a member of the course, you receive a discount on the examination fees.

  • What are the benefits of being a student in the ACE Fitness Prep Courses?

    The Campus Recreation Fitness and Wellness program will become your “go to” to help you every step of the way in your quest to become a fitness professional.  The courses will help you prepare for the ACE exam and become a successful fitness professional.

    By participating in the ACE Fitness Prep Courses, you will have the opportunity to save over 20% off the cost of course materials and the exam.  Opportunities to practice with your group is another major benefit that helps ease anxiety and nervousness as a rookie instructor or trainer.

  • What is the difference between a Group Fitness Instructor and a Personal Trainer?

    Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers both learn basic fitness principles, physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, and exercise technique.  However, Group Fitness Instructors are taught music selection, tempo, choreography, and cueing in order to lead a safe and effective group of individuals as opposed to personalized attention.  Personal Trainers are taught more detailed topics on tailored exercise program design and one-on-one teaching techniques.

  • When are the ACE Fitness Prep Courses offered?

    The Personal Training Prep Course is offered every fall semester typically from mid-September to mid-November.  Details regarding the course dates, registration info, and more are released towards the end of the summer leading up to the fall semester.  The Group Fitness Prep Course is offered every spring semester typically from February to April.  Details regarding the course dates, registration info, and more are released towards the end of the fall leading up to the spring semester.
