About the Symposia

The Bresnahan-Halstead/Kephart Symposia offer you an opportunity for learning in the beautiful, mountain setting of Vail, Colorado, an international recreation and vacation resort town in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This summer you can choose from two, one-week symposia. Each will be held 8:00 am until 2:00 pm , Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am - noon on Friday. A 7:30 am continental breakfast and 12:00 pm working lunch will be provided to permit participants to concentrate fully on the workshop and allow for early afternoon dismissal. The schedule may be altered somewhat to accommodate particular presentations.

Two semester hours of graduate credit are an option for each week's class. Requirements for credit include

  • tuition payment of $200
  • attendance at all sessions
  • and the completion of a brief written paper.
  • Grading is S/U
  • Certificates of attendance will be given to all participants and UNC transcripts mailed in September to those who elect to earn credit

Each workshop will begin with on-site registration Monday morning at 7:30 am, after which the program will start at 8:00 am when the workshop facilitator will answer questions about the course and provide an overview of the week's session.
A variety of techniques will be used to present symposia information including lectures, discussions, audio-visual presentations, question/answer sessions, and wrap-ups. You will be able to interact with experts and your peers in special education and related fields from throughout the country.

Each session has a minimum participant requirement; failure to reach this limit may result in its cancellation.  If you should have to cancel your registration, you will receive 50% refund of your deposit provided you notify the Center at least two weeks before your session is scheduled to begin. Failure to meet this two-week cancellation notification will result in forfeiture of your entire deposit.
